While this specific blog is an urban fantasy 18+ RP blog, I have several Star Wars OCs I’m writing up for RP purposes. Since I created this blog back when there were no pages or side-blogs I can’t easily turn it into an RP hub.

So, I made a new RP hub side-blog for Star Wars. All follows / DM are from this blog, and the rest starts with the Star Wars RP OC ‘hub’ @helleboros-starwars . The Star Wars RP OC hub will be kept to PG-13 content for most RPs, Lore, & Art.

From there you can look at what I’ve finished for the RP characters. I’m still working on them and it make take me a few more months due to RL. I’ll keep updating this and the hub-blog with updates when I can.

You can see more info about the mun and the rules if you click this page’s “About” link.

Thanks!

22/6/13 Update: I picked a new theme for the main blog and the Star Wars OC hub-blog. I’ll be adding character pages later. The “About” page for umbra-est-magus (will be same as hellebore-starwars) is done so you can see all the rules and info about the mun!

22/13/8 Update: I’m busy with RL at the moment and will continue updating the Star Wars related character blogs when I can. I may reshuffle or consolidate a few as I found several accounts who’s work I want to reblog that’s more art-related or lore-related & it’s better to put those under one roof.

Ruka’s heart was aching. It’s been a while he was as anxious, nervous and upset the last time it ached like this, physically. If he wasn’t standing in a line of vampires ready to enter the big ball room, he’d slam a toilet door after himself to burst out crying.

Instead he sucked in air through his nose and exhaled with his lips mildly pursed. The haori and the obi (belt) holding it together was tight. It highlighted his thin waist and Ruka had mixed feelings about his appearance. He looked stunning in his first formal clothing was made exclusively to him, stitch by stitch. Which he hated for the first time.

His back feeling stiff and straight like a column, Ruka turned his head to look at Cas stood by the opposite wall of the corridor, his fiancé too, waiting to enter the hall. The jewel stroked the side of his neck and his heart sunk again, realizing the meaningful, decorated chain across his face.

- Cas… - he whispered, knowing well he had his mate’s attention, feeling every cell, every atom of his energy touching his own, like they didn’t stay a meter away but tightly side by side. Ruka reached his arm out, knowing if Caspar did the same they could exchange a brief hand-holding what he needed so much.

@umbra-est-magus

Tasuo sensed the attention of his youngest son and his eyes found Ruka and Caspar about to approach him. Straightening his back a small smile appeared in the corner of his lips, arching his brows in interest.

Ruka’s face jerked into a reluctant grimace for a moment was noticed by only those knew him well-enough. Of course Daiji as a psychic couldn’t miss it either, and gazed the back of the second heir for a moment, understanding where his discomfort is coming from before nodding towards Caspar, appreciating the apology.

Squeezing his fiancé’s hand Ruka inhaled slowly through his nose as he stopped in front of his mother. Not expecting the move, his eyes jumped on Tasuo’s outreached right hand. It wasn’t the usual formal way of greeting, rather a warm gentle invite to hold hands for a moment like close relatives do.

And Ruka before he could understand, squeezed the fragile looking hand of his mother, smiling from the warmth he noticed in his eyes.

- Good to see you, son. - he mouthed, earning a hard sigh from his elder son stood behind him. - And you too, Caspar. - he nod with a small smile.

—————–

“It’s good to see you again Kitao-san,” Caspar greeted him with smile in return. He was hoping the greeting was appropriate enough. He didn’t think he had any right to address Tasuo informally without his permission, in such a public setting. Ruka probably could, but Cas continued, ignoring the sigh he heard coming from Tasuo’s other son. He wasn’t sure how exactly to greet him.

“We were fortunate enough to come back to Tokyo in time for the ball in between all the traveling. I have more photos I can share, but how have you been doing?”

Cas shelved Asylum’s tricks for now, waiting to use those on anyone he saw gawking, glaring, or otherwise spending too much time with less than appropriate attention directed at him and Ruka. He’d leave the tricks for people other than the Kitaos, since he respected Tasuo enough to try and continue being as genuine as possible, much like how they started.

I slept in and just woke up, so here’s what I’ve been able to figure out while sipping coffee:

  • Twitter has officially rebranded to X just a day or two after the move was announced.
  • The official branding is that a tweet is now called “an X”, for which there are too many jokes to make.
  • The official account is still @twitter because someone else owns @X and they didn’t reclaim the username first.
  • The logo is 𝕏 which is the Unicode character Unicode U+1D54F so the logo cannot be copyrighted and it is highly likely that it cannot be protected as a trademark.
  • Outside the visual logo, the trademark for the use of the name “X” in social media is held by Meta/Facebook, while the trademark for “X” in finance/commerce is owned by Microsoft.
  • The rebranding has been stopped in Japan as the term “X Japan” is trademarked by the band X JAPAN.
  • Elon had workers taking down the “Twitter” name from the side of the building. He did not have any permits to do this. The building owner called the cops who stopped the crew midway through so the sign just says “er”.
  • He still plans to call his streaming and media hosting branch of the company as “Xvideo”. Nobody tell him.

This man wants you to give him control over all of your financial information.

Edit to add further developments:

  • Yes, this is all real. Check the notes and people have pictures. I understand the skepticism because it feels like a joke, but to the best of my knowledge, everything in the above is accurate.
  • Microsoft also owns the trademark on X for chatting and gaming because, y'know, X-box.
  • The logo came from a random podcaster who tweeted it at Musk.
  • The act of sending a tweet is now known as “Xeet”. They even added a guide for how to Xeet.
  • The branding change is inconsistent. Some icons have changed, some have not, and the words “tweet” and “Twitter” are still all over the place on the site.
  • TweetDeck is currently unaffected and I hope it’s because they forgot that it exists again. The complete negligence toward that tool and just leaving it the hell alone is the only thing that makes the site usable (and some of us are stuck on there for work).
  • This is likely because Musk was forced out of PayPal due to a failed credit line project and because he wanted to rename the site to “X-Paypal” and eventually just to “X”.
  • This became a big deal behind the scenes as Musk paid over $1 million for the domain X.com and wanted to rebrand the company that already had the brand awareness people were using it as a verb to “pay online” (as in “I’ll paypal you the money”)
  • X.com is not currently owned by Musk. It is held by a domain registrar (I believe GoDaddy but I’m not entirely sure). Meaning as long as he’s hung onto this idea of making X Corp a thing, he couldn’t be arsed to pay the $15/year domain renewal.
  • Bloomberg estimates the rebranding wiped between $4 to $20 billion from the valuation of Twitter due to the loss of brand awareness.
  • The company was already worth less than half of the $44 billion Musk paid for it in the first place, meaning this may end up a worse deal than when Yahoo bought Tumblr.
  • One estimation (though this is with a grain of salt) said that Twitter is three months from defaulting on its loans taken out to buy the site. Those loans were secured with Tesla stock. Meaning the bank will seize that stock and, since it won’t be enough to pay the debt (since it’s worth around 50-75% of what it was at the time of the loan), they can start seizing personal assets of Elon Musk including the Twitter company itself and his interest in SpaceX.
  • Sesame Street’s official accounts mocked the rebranding.

When Statler and Waldorf go after you for your life choices, you seriously need to sit down and have a rethink.

The Animation Guild Announces Unionization Efforts At Warner Bros. And Cartoon Network

Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network production workers are attempting to unionize with The Animation Guild (TAG).

A petition was filed with the National Labor Relations Board today requesting a union election. The petition includes 66 staffers at Warner Bros. Animation and 22 at Cartoon Network, including roles like production manager, digital production assistant, IT technician, production coordinator, production assistant, design production coordinator, assistant production manager and senior assistant production manager.

They are involved in such Warner Bros. projects as Batman: The Caped CrusaderHarley Quinn and Teen Titans Go! and Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time: Fionna and CakeWe Baby Bears and Craig of the Creek.

The workers also requested voluntary recognition from management at the Warner Bros. Discovery subsidiaries.

A tweet was issued confirming the move, which was officially announced earlier on a joint Zoom call.

“Although many might not think it, production is a specialized skill; we might not be artists or writers, but what we bring to the table goes beyond traditional creativity and gets content on the air,” Warner Bros. Animation production manager Hannah Ferenc said in a statement about the organization effort. “Having lived through the existing state of the animation industry for the past seven years, I want to make sure that not only our current workers, but all those who choose to join us in the future, can feel secure in following their passion by earning livable wages and being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.”

The Animation Guild has already established bargaining units on shows like Rick and MortySolar Opposites, The SimpsonsFamily Guy and American Dad!  It also is active at studios like Titmouse New York and L.A. and ShadowMachine. Establishment at Walt Disney Animation Studios is currently in progress.”

“One of my wife’s distant friends has attempted to invite herself to stay with us, again,” writes the exasperated owner of a prime 2 bedroom apartment in New York City in this Ask MetaFilter question. “She did this last March, and we used the excuse of me starting a new job and needing to do x, y, and z as well as the “out of town” excuse for any remaining dates. This got us off scot-free, but we both knew the time would come again… and it’s here. We need a final solution.”

He goes on to list two different possibilities he can think of for getting this woman to stop asking for free room and board. The first is a little white lie, something about their keys being hard to duplicate. The other is to be vague, to say something like “Sorry, that isn’t going to work for us” and hope she doesn’t ask why.

The first few answers give this poster very direct advice: Just say no. No need to give an explanation, it’s her who’s being rude by asking. Others give him advice that was probably more like what he was expecting: other ways to be vague like claiming that it’s “One of those random `Life in NYC things.’”

Another thread of discussion popped up around whether or not the woman asking for a place to stay was being rude. Some posters couldn’t understand how simply asking to stay in someone’s apartment was rude, while another went as far to say that putting someone in the position “having to be rude and say no” was rude in and of itself.

It is into this context that user tangerine contributes this answer:

This is a classic case of Ask Culture meets Guess Culture.

In some families, you grow up with the expectation that it’s OK to ask for anything at all, but you gotta realize you might get no for an answer. This is Ask Culture.

In Guess Culture, you avoid putting a request into words unless you’re pretty sure the answer will be yes. Guess Culture depends on a tight net of shared expectations. A key skill is putting out delicate feelers. If you do this with enough subtlety, you won’t even have to make the request directly; you’ll get an offer. Even then, the offer may be genuine or pro forma; it takes yet more skill and delicacy to discern whether you should accept.

All kinds of problems spring up around the edges. If you’re a Guess Culture person — and you obviously are — then unwelcome requests from Ask Culture people seem presumptuous and out of line, and you’re likely to feel angry, uncomfortable, and manipulated.

If you’re an Ask Culture person, Guess Culture behavior can seem incomprehensible, inconsistent, and rife with passive aggression.

Obviously she’s an Ask and you’re a Guess. (I’m a Guess too. Let me tell you, it’s great for, say, reading nuanced and subtle novels; not so great for, say, dating and getting raises.)

Thing is, Guess behaviors only work among a subset of other Guess people — ones who share a fairly specific set of expectations and signalling techniques. The farther you get from your own family and friends and subculture, the more you’ll have to embrace Ask behavior. Otherwise you’ll spend your life in a cloud of mild outrage at (pace Moomin fans) the Cluelessness of Everyone.

As you read through the responses to this question, you can easily see who the Guess and the Ask commenters are. It’s an interesting exercise. (#)

After this comment many users, including the original poster himself, began to use these terms in discussing the issue. And why wouldn’t they? Ask Culture and Guess Culture describe two valid yet opposing ways of interacting with the world with very little value judgment given to them. Framing the argument as such was a stroke of utter genius by tangerine, broadening the perspective of many who participated in the discussion and adding to the general lifebuzz.

(via nomi–sunrider, mefitours-blog-blog)

This is fascinating. My mom was, I think, a variety of Guess culture. She disliked telling her kids no to reasonable requests. We learned to make flat/information statements like “I’m going to need a ride after school on Friday,” and if she responded with another flat stament like “I have to work until 5 on Friday,” then we knew we had to problem solve an alternative. My parents divorced when I was 12. One summer spent with my dad when I was 16, he blew up at me. “Why don’t you just ASK for a ride?!” It was only when explaining mom’s preference that I realized I’d been trained not to make my mom say no. So I learned dad’s way too. This is the 1st time I’ve actually had NAMES for this issue.

Thoughts:

-I wonder how many failed relationships and divorces have mixed ask/guess culture as a component?

-I wonder how many other like me there are-trained in both cultures due to a mixed marriage-and what this does to our own relationships.

-why is this not a widely known thing? Good god it seems a HUGE facet of effective communication and I’m only just hearing about it at 51 years old? Is there a book about this somewhere? Dammit…

image

-I’m going to be re-examining every personal and work relationship I have (and have had) in light of this revelation.

@aka-killgrave @captainbill-cl

This is incredible and I can’t believe I’ve never heard it put this way before and I’m 54. My family is definitely of the Guess variety because this really explains the crazy lack of communication. My mother is an extreme Guesser and actually gets angry when you can’t just guess what she wants. She is 84 and I chaulked it up to being raised in the 40’s and 50’s when women didn’t ask for what they wanted. She didn’t do this as much when we were little but as we got into teenage years and she had to deal with us as young adults she apparently didn’t want to ask, but got irritated when we couldn’t guess.

When I was a teenager visiting family, apparently my aunt got tired of having to ask me and my sisters what we wanted all the time and asked us to speak up and said ‘if you don’t ask, you don’t get.’ At the time I thought this was partly a lesson in gaining self confidence but at the same time I realized if I just ask and not expect everyone to guess, I can get more of what I need out of life with less stress.

Fast forward to now. My mother is still an extreme Guesser and three of my sister’s are Guesser’s and just make up reasons in their head instead of asking what’s going on. My other sister and I have learned to ask so they think we are rude for asking and we think they are rude for making shit up instead of asking. Wow. I can’t believe there’s a term for this. If this was taught as basic communication skills I think a lot more people would be able to get along. I definitely have to look into this more.

I read a fascinating essay written by a Guess woman married to an Ask man and how that affected their sex life, and how they compromised.

My mother is an asker and my dad is a guesser and sometimes I have to butt in and translate what each other is trying to say XD I didn’t even know there was a word for it!!

I learned to give people permission to say no to me. A lot of people, more than I ever expected, have trouble saying no, especially when, like in the original post, it’s because they just don’t want to, not because they have a reason. (As if not wanting to isn’t a valid reason… but I digress.) So, I tend to ask for things, particularly big or onerous things, like this:

“Okay, I need to ask you something but, first of all, please feel free to say no. You don’t need to give me a reason and I won’t be angry or upset.”

Then I ask for what I want.

And if they say no, I don’t ask why, I don’t get passive aggressive and I don’t get angry or upset. I don’t dwell on it. They’ve said no and that’s final. I thank them, then I move the conversation on.

Two of the most valuable things you can learn is how to say no and how to accept no.

@umbra-est-magus

It was undeniable that Caspar was going to get stares, at least that’s what he thought. While he was certain the other families knew about him, this was the first time they’d be meeting him – a complete outsider who was intending to marry the second child of the Edora clan. He tried to make his peace with it by putting his anxiety aside and repeating what his friend Asylum had told him about eye contact, smiles, and greetings or laughing it off. Just the thought that he had a being so well versed in social affairs like Asylum lending him a bit of advice was surreal enough to make him want to laugh. Like there was a dirty little secret that was just his and Ruka’s that none of the other elders could touch or compare with perhaps. It kept his mind off of his anxiet, yet he could feel it rolling off of Ruka.

Caspar knew the attire and jewel was to blame. Ruka tried so hard to be only a man, and nothing else, that having to walk around as an intersex vampire was far more than alien for his partner. The term “Dysphoria” didn’t do the feeling justice, since it was also their first formal social occassion on top of just gender identity anxiety.

He immediately sense Ruka reaching for him, and he did the same, taking his partner’s hand as best we could.

Silently he told Ruka <Just remember what Asylum told me, we make eye contact and if they look away just laugh or smile, and if they don’t look away we can introduce ourselves but I swear I’m not leaving your side. I do want to try and say hi to your mom first. I trust Tatsuo. He’s always been kind to us, and I’d like to be equally as polite even if he has to be formal at the ball.>

@kuromiyakun

Taking another self-calming breath through his nose, Ruka squeezed the hand in his hold lightly, with a smile. “I know.” - he thought to Cas, his voice and mind swirling around his partner’s inside his head. The presence of the other was really reassuring and making Ruka to feel less stupid.

Gently a hand pressed against the back of his neck, warm fingers squeezing his muscle. Turning his head he faced Nikida, who left his place on the front of the line to show his support to Ruka, wordlessly. The sinlings exchanged a smile and one more with Razor, who looked back over his shoulder. The intersex vampire stood right in front of the second heir, his long hair falling free on his back. He wore elegant make-up and a very similar jewel to Ruka’s which looked stunning across his face.

Releasing Cas’s hand when the double doors opened, light music became louder and the line of Edora family members moved ahead, led by the first heir. Ruka had to leave his fiancé behind for some seconds, until Cas could enter the room too, walking in behind Amun. The elderly vampire in traditional red kimono, who looked no more than 30 in human standards was a far relative of the Edoras and one of the oldest vampires on Earth, led the Edora’s personal guests into the ballroom.

@umbra-est-magus

The amount of social traditions he had to cram into his head the past few days while also juggling his own life with Ruka had kept him from being able to spend more time talking to his husband.

He was thankful enough to attend this ball. It spoke a lot and while not all the family may take him and his devotion to Ruka seriously he was going to prove them wrong. He waited for his turn to enter with slightly less patience than the elder leading them. Cas took his promise seriously and was thankful for the emotional connection shared with Ruka.

Once he was inside Cas knew exactly where his partner was waiting for him. Once he was able to rejoin Ruka he took his partner’s hand to hold.

Softly in a whisper he asked, “Anything else we have to formally do like greetings or do we get to mingle freely?”

He just wanted to skip to the part where he could talk to Tatsuo or Oxana to get the evening going smoothly but he knew formal affairs had their own structure of events to adhere to.

@kuromiyakun

- No, I don’t know. - Ruka shook his head a little, his stomach aching from nervousness as the jewel swung lightly on both sides of his jaw. - I feel like a fucking cow, labeled. - the second heir gritted his teeth, adjusting the front of his kimono once more, trying to suppress his emotions.

When the farther double door of the ballroom opened and he noticed the snow white kimonos he moaned out loud with a tiny jerk of his upper lip. The Kitaos gracefully entered, his mother on the front, followed by his elder son.

Ruka’s spine squirmed under the luxurious material of his kimono and goosebumps ran up on his arms, mostly from feeling the aversion of Nikida and his father who both stood not too far from him. The only one should feel most irked, the king’s dragon companion smiled the lightest on the newly entering guests, straight at the vampire his mate cheated him with, on the front.

Nikida gazed back at Ruka, who swallowed dryly from what he saw in the first heir’s eyes. His elder sibling tried to seek his feelings out for seeming his mother. The one for everyone else was an enemy.

- Enjoying the party? - Ruka heard from behind himself. Jumping a bit, he squeezed Cas’ hand reflexively until he realized who spoke to him.

- Colonel. Very not. - he peeked back over his shoulder, recognizing the black,-purple uniformed kimono the warrior wore, always.

@umbra-est-magus

Caspar thought to Ruka rather than replying aloud, <“Don’t make me channel my inner Asylum and point out you’re far hotter than any cow could ever be, so you should use the word “Queen’ or ‘Princess’ to give yourself some credit.”>

He knew the jewel bothered Ruka and that the word “bothered’ was a polite term that didn’t fit how ugly the feeling was crawling under Ruka’s skin. While he viewed Ruka, as ‘male’ in terms of identity he’d never not been aware of the intersex biology, and that by him ignoring it he had allowed them both to just live in a half-fantasy that it could be ignored altogether. Until social customs like this came up.

Cas squeezed Ruka’s hand happy to hear Daiji checking in on Ruka. The Colonel knew Ruka well enough that Ruka was always managed to feel better around their instructor, and more open.

He also chimed in, “I don’t want to leave your side, but I think if I can get this party started if I say hi to your mother. It’ll be fun, just like our friend suggested.”

Caspar tilted his head with a large smile, knowing full well he was going to make everyone stare at *him* rather than his partner, then put Asylum’s advice to work for his partner’s benefit, so less attention was on his partner… at least in regards to the jewel. Instead they’d be judging the fiance or political situation.

 @kuromiyakun

Hearing the word princess and queen made Ruka’s eyes to move at Caspar, suddenly feeling flattered, in the depth of his look, dirty promises.

“Skip courting or else… I’ll drag you out of here.” - he thought to his partner with a tiny, lopsided smile.

- Sure, go. - the second heir nod, pulling his hand gently back. Non-verbal communication was considered rude in the presence of someone who understood them. Daiji could as well feel the remark of Caspar and the reaction it had on Ruka being called a queen. - Later I’ll greet him too. - he added, pulling his fingers through his kimono again, looking a bit nervous.

Peeking towards his mother he frowned, narrowing his eyes to focus more on his appearance, noticing a thin, elegant jewel across his face, very similar to his own. - Or you know what? Let me come with you. - he reached after his partner.

@umbra-est-magus

Caspar hadn’t really started to walk away, so he simply turned to reach out for Ruka’s hand. He was only considering going on his own because Daiji was standing with Ruka, since he had made the promise to Ruka that he wouldn’t leave his side. Daiji was the one person Cas could see, that Ruka was comfortable enough around that he was the safest person Ruka could ever be with in a ball like this. Probably more than Cas himself, given that the elder had experience and skills with these things that Cas didn’t.

As he grasped Ruka’s hand, he took a moment to tell Daiji. “Thank you Colonel, Would you mind if we continue chatting later after we greet Kitao-san and some of the other guests?”  Caspar was guessing that Ruka might get overwhelmed, but didn’t know how to be direct and ask for help. That he simply wanted to drag Ruka out of a situation if it got too complicated by heading to Daiji rather than just Oxana, given that Ruka had such confidence and trust in the Colonel. Caspar felt the depth of his inexperience and almost sighed, knowing he hadn’t a clue on how to ask Daiji directly for anything.

Life has been busy. I miss my muses, and it gets harder to find the inspiration to write without them. It’s like my brain just boxes up and hides the ideas, to where I can’t find them, nor know what to do with what isn’t hidden.

I’m tired of this brain of mine that never works well when I need it to work.

Welcome!

Because the main account is a NSFW 18+ OC, all of my blogs will be considered 18+ since they are linked to the main blog even if not all characters will be RP'd with mature content (sex, violence, traumatic situation, etc).

I prefer to rp with mutuals. Because I don't want to over-stretch myself I tend to focus on about 1-4 separate rp partners per OC so that I have time to keep up with everyone's rp on a regular basis. I can also do multiple threads per rp partner even with the same OC if you have more than one character or we have more than one idea to work on with the same characters.

To keep from over powering any character unintentionally, I'm more than wiling to discuss any unique abilities ahead of time to establish boundaries on how much my OCs can do in any verse/ with any character. I do not want to god-mode or otherwise be unnecessarily OP. I will always seek approval first to play a character that may result in a power imbalance with my rp partner.

My main interest is to make sure we are all having fun, and are enjoying the creative interaction between our characters. Combat and romance are secondary 'spice' that's optional for RP, and not mandatory. I like conflict and ships, but not at the expense of other's rp enjoyment.

Give me a head's up if you need a break. I don't mind if it's weeks or months. I'll gladly pick the rp back up again in the future.

Additionally, if any of my rp partners needs me to tag certain content I might be posting or rping with someone else with a content warning (cw), please let me know. I will accomodate any need for a content warning.

Thank you! I look forward to rping with you
